It came with a smaller battery pack that only lasts about 4 hours on a full charge but I got my daughter a bigger longer lasting one because she used it for hunting in our blind. You press the button on the front of the jacket to turn it on and cycle through 3 heating modes. The jacket gets nice and warm even on the lowest setting. The battery life seems to last long enough, I was out for a few hours running errands and had the heat on at the light/medium setting the whole time, battery still had some life.
